How much does it cost to set up a limited company in Hong Kong?

How long does it take to set up a company?

With all documents in order, submission is made electronically via the government’s e-Registry, and the Certificate of Incorporation (CI) and Business Registration Certificate (BR) can be obtained in as fast as 3 business days.

Can a non-Hong Kong resident set up a Hong Kong company?

Yes. There are no nationality restrictions for directors and shareholders of a limited company — non-Hong Kong residents can sign documents remotely without having to come to Hong Kong in person; Alpha’s registered address and company secretary services are also available for use.

What is Hong Kong's profits tax rate?

Limited companies are taxed under a two-tiered system: the first HK$2,000,000 of assessable profits is taxed at 8.25%, and the remainder at 16.5%. Unlimited companies (sole proprietorships/partnerships) are taxed at 7.5% and 15% respectively. Hong Kong only taxes profits sourced from Hong Kong.

Is a company secretary mandatory?

Yes. Under Section 474 of the Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622), every Hong Kong limited company must appoint a company secretary and maintain a registered address in Hong Kong. Alpha holds a TCSP licence (TC007448) and can serve as your statutory company secretary.
